Celebration, honor and tradition
Falla burning

Falla monuments in Valencia.

All 790 Falla monuments in Valencia were put to the torch last night, on the final day of the most important fiestas of the year for the regional capital. Under the watchful eye of the fire brigades, the burning began at 10 pm and culminated some three hours later with the final burning of the Falla in front of the town hall. Five minutes earlier, the prize-winning Falla of Pedro Santaeulalia had also been burned to the ground, as the artist is allegedly already at work on his creations for 2007.

More than a million people swarmed around the streets of Valencia to witness the traditional end to the Fiesta of San Jose, and as is usual, mayoress Rita Barbera gave a dinner party for her guests in the Crystal Room of the town hall prior to the burnings, with her special guest being Manuel Pizarro, the President of the besieged electricity company Endesa. As the smoke died away in the town hall square, firework maestro Antonio Caballer gave the festivities a final sendoff with a spectacular aerial display featuring amongst other things some new sequential rockets.

Today at 7: 25 pm, it will be officially springtime, that will last until June 21 at 4:25 pm, when summertime will begin, As for the clocks, they alter this coming Sunday.
