A white and blue-eyed Bengal tiger without stripes has been born at a wild animal protection centre in Benimantell near the south-eastern Spanish coastal resort of Alicante, a representative of the centre said Monday.
|
The male tiger Artico was born of normal-coloured parents three months ago. Zoologist Serafin Domenech said it was not an albino and that its colour had been caused by a genetic anomaly.
Domenech said only a few dozen such tigers existed in captivity. Their visible colour made it difficult for them to hunt and turned them into easy prey, he explained.
